Champions Cup: Jonathan Davies relishes Leigh Halfpenny duel

Jonathan Davies says he hopes to "get the better" of Wales team-mate Leigh Halfpenny when they meet in the European Champions Cup final.

Davies, 27, starts at outside-centre for Clermont Auvergne, while Halfpenny, 26, will play at full-back for holders Toulon at Twickenham on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him and hopefully I'll get the better of him," Davies told BBC Sport.

"I haven't spoken to him this week but I will after the game."

Davies and Halfpenny have won a Grand Slam and Six Nations title playing together for Wales, and they were both part of the British and Irish Lions' victorious tour of Australia in 2013.

The two players are approaching the end of their first seasons in France, with Davies joining Clermont from Scarlets and Halfpenny moving from Cardiff Blues to Toulon last summer.

Clermont booked their place in the Champions Cup final with a win against Saracens, while Toulon beat Leinster to keep alive their hopes of an historic hat-trick of European titles.

The all-French final means either Davies or Halfpenny will become Wales' 10th European champion.

The previous nine are Tony Rees, Ieuan Evans, Richard Webster, Nathan Thomas, Allan Bateman, Andy Newman, Rob Howley, Gareth Thomas and Gethin Jenkins.

Davies says joining that list with a Clermont victory would rank alongside his achievements with Wales and the Lions.

"It would be up there with what I've done for my country and the Lions," he added.

"This is the most important game of the season and to be part of this team playing at Twickenham will be a very proud moment for me."
