Saracens winger David Strettle has agreed to join French Top 14 side Clermont Auvergne on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old, who was recently named in England's 50-man World Cup training squad, has spent the last five seasons with the north London side.

"David has been a fine servant to Saracens," Sarries director of rugby Mark McCall said.

"He has the opportunity to test himself in a different league and I wish him all the luck in the future."

Strettle, who has won 14 international caps for England, joined Saracens from Harlequins in 2010.

He has made more than 100 appearances for the Allianz Park side and helped Sarries to win two Premiership titles, the second following victory over Bath on Saturday.

"Something special has been happening at Saracens in the past few years and I feel very privileged to have been part of this period of success," he said.

"We have won some famous matches and several trophies but the bond within the squad has been incredible.

"I am now really looking forward to a new chapter in my career, playing at Clermont Auvergne and testing myself in the Top 14."

Strettle's move to Clermont could prevent him from playing at the World Cup as, under Rugby Football Union rules, England head coach Stuart Lancaster is only allowed to select overseas-based players in "exceptional circumstances", such as an extreme injury list.
