David Strettle replaced by Semesa Rokoduguni in World Cup squad

David Strettle scored two tries in 14 appearances for England

Clermont Auvergne-bound David Strettle has withdrawn from England's World Cup training squad and will be replaced by Bath wing Semesa Rokoduguni.

Rokoduguni, 27, made his international debut against New Zealand last year.

Strettle, 31, won the Premiership title with Saracens last month but will join Top 14 side Clermont for next season.

"I am extremely proud to have represented England and will look fondly back on the 14 caps I have won for my country," he said.

The former Harlequins wing, who made his England debut during the 2007 Six Nations, has not featured for head coach Stuart Lancaster's side since the tour of Argentina in 2013.

Lancaster said: "Obviously it is disappointing but David and I have chatted and he feels that, having made the move, he wants to get on with forging his new career and we both agreed it was the best course of action for him to withdraw from the squad.

"I will bring in Semesa Rokoduguni, who was very unlucky not to be included in the first instance, and is now looking forward to joining up with the rest of the players. Roko is currently in Fiji but he will be with us as soon as possible."

Rokoduguni, a Lance Corporal and reconnaissance tank soldier with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, has not appeared since his debut against the All Blacks last November, having been overlooked for this year's Six Nations campaign.

He becomes the ninth Bath player to be named in England's training squad, with their first World Cup match coming against Fiji on 18 September.
