Wales prop Gethin Jenkins named Cardiff Blues captain

Gethin Jenkins has made 114 appearances for Wales

Prop Gethin Jenkins will captain Cardiff Blues this season.

The Wales and British and Irish Lions loose-head, 34, has made 154 appearances for the Welsh region over two spells.

Jenkins is currently with Wales' World Cup squad and back-row Josh Navidi, who signed a contract extension this week, will lead Blues in his absence.

"Gethin leads by example every time he pulls on the jersey," said Blues head coach Danny Wilson.

"That was the crucial characteristic that we were looking for when we looked at who would take on the captaincy.

"He is the consummate professional who demands the very highest standards from both himself and his team-mates, both on and off the field, and is an ideal role model for the younger players in our squad."
