Wales head coach Warren Gatland has vowed to get wing Alex Cuthbert back "on form" for the World Cup.

Cuthbert has been included in Gatland's 31-man squad for the tournament, having been dropped for the Six Nations win against France in February.

"There was a lot of speculation about Alex Cuthbert [being dropped] and he probably hasn't played quite as well as he would've liked," said Gatland.

"But we're going to get him up to speed and on form."

Cuthbert has scored 15 tries in 34 appearances for Wales, but he has touched down only once in his last six Tests.

The 25-year-old's international future has come under scrutiny, with former British and Irish Lions wing Dafydd James saying he would be "lucky" to reclaim his Wales place.

But Gatland believes Cuthbert, a Lions Test try-scorer himself against Australia in 2013, could be a threat during the World Cup.

"He just needs a bit of time and sometimes players go through that phase in their career where things have not been happening for them," added Gatland.

"But his strike rate for us in terms of try-scoring, both him and George [North], we need to make sure we get the ball in their hands and give them the opportunity to cause the damage they're capable of."
