Andrew Trimble says he is determined to focus on his Ulster career after being left out of Ireland's World Cup squad.

The wing, 30, injured his foot in the warm-up game against Wales on 8 August but recovered fully to play in Ulster's opening Pro12 win over Ospreys.

While his omission was "disappointing", Trimble vowed to be ready to step in if Joe Schmidt's men suffer any injuries.

"My aim is to concentrate on my own game. If the call from Ireland does come, I will be ready," he said.

"I have played only two full games since coming back from injury and still have a lot to work on."

Trimble had been hoping to add to his 58 Ireland caps by appearing in a third World Cup, having played in the 2007 and 2011 tournaments.

He missed this year's Six Nations with a toe injury but was back in a green shirt for the game in Cardiff last month - his first international match for over a year.

"I would just love to have got in there," he added.

"It is a World Cup and everybody wants to play at that level. Joe talked me through the reasons why I did not make it."
