Newport Gwent Dragons secured their second victory of the season with a deserved win over Treviso in the Pro12.

Nic Cudd's first-half try, aided by Jason Tovey's 100% kicking record, saw Lyn Jones' side win at Rodney Parade.

Treviso's only scores came from the boot of Jayden Hayward and they remain without a win.

Dragons had lost their previous two games with their only win of the season having come against another Italian side, Zebre.

Centre Adam Hughes started for the home side after rejoining on a three-month loan from Exeter Chiefs.

Fly-half Tovey set Dragons on their way with an early penalty before Hayward's kick brought Treviso level.

Back-rower Cudd crossed for the first try following a driving line-out, and Tovey's conversion and a second penalty extended the lead.

Dragons dominated the first half although Treviso cut the lead to seven points through Hayward's penalty.

Hayward and Tovey exchanged penalties early in the second half before the Treviso full-back cut the lead to four points with his fourth kick of the game.

Tovey maintained his 100% kicking record but Dragons were reduced to 14 men when replacement hooker Rhys Buckley was shown a yellow card.

Hayward missed his first penalty of the game while a try from Dragons wing Nick Scott was disallowed late on.

Newport Gwent Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones said: "I was really pleased with the performance of our players and we stuck to the task.

"We were organised and looked like a team. We've come a long way since a poor performance out in Dublin a few weeks back.

"We're moving in the right direction but there's going to be bigger challenges ahead and we've got to be prepared for them."
