Scotland fly-half Finn Russell has signed a new three-year contract with Glasgow Warriors.

The 23-year-old joined the Pro12 champions in 2012 and made his debut the following December.

Head coach Gregor Townsend said: "He has not only broken into the Glasgow Warriors team, but he is also now playing regularly for Scotland.

"Finn has been heavily involved in our biggest recent games and there's a lot more to come from him in the future."

Russell secured a full-time contract at the start of the 2014-15 season, has now made 32 appearances for the Warriors and his new deal takes him to May 2018.

He has just returned to Scotstoun after being part of Vern Cotter's squad at the Rugby World Cup in England, earning his 15th cap in the quarter-final defeat by Australia.

Russell said: "I've really enjoyed the last couple of years and it was an easy decision to stay.

"You can see the club is going places and winning the Pro12 title last season was another big milestone.

"We have a really competitive squad and I'm continually learning from the coaches and the players around me."

Meanwhile, Warriors have agreed a three-year sponsorship deal with Scottish Power.

Warriors say the sponsorship is worth a six-figure sum and includes plans for the energy firm to help develop "a community youth programme in the West of Scotland".
