London Irish scrum-half Brendan McKibbin says relegation is "not in the equation" for the club despite their lowly Premiership position.

Irish moved off the bottom and above fellow strugglers Newcastle with a 20-15 win against the Falcons on Sunday.

Victory was only the Exiles' second in nine rounds but their fourth home win in succession in all competitions.

"There's such a long way to go, we don't spend much time looking at the table," McKibbin told BBC Sport.

Australian McKibbin, who joined from New South Wales Waratahs at the start of the season, is confident Irish will pull clear of danger.

"There's so much belief in this group that I don't think relegation is going to come into the equation this season," he said.

Irish take a break from Premiership action until the end of January for the two remaining rounds of pool matches in the European Challenge Cup.

Tom Coventry's side face French clubs Grenoble at home and then Agen away with an eye on qualifying for the quarter-finals.

McKibbin, 30, feels home support will be a crucial factor in the months ahead.

"The crowd at the Madejski Stadium, when they start banging the drums and singing The Fields of Athenry, the blokes feed off that," he said.

"They've got us through a couple of tight wins against Northampton and Newcastle and they're absolutely unbelievable."
