Jason Tovey has contributed 96 points so far this season in 16 appearances for Dragons

Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half Jason Tovey says they will go all out to earn a home European Challenge Cup quarter-final for the second year running.

The Welsh region's qualification for the last eight was confirmed on Sunday by Connacht's loss to Brive.

Tovey knows home advantage could be key and told BBC Wales Sport: "That's huge for this club again. Look what we did last year when we played Cardiff Blues.

"It was a sell-out and the whole of Gwent got behind us."

Dragons, who beat Blues 25-21 in last season's last eight, are already sure of qualifying as at least one of the best three runners-up, before their final group game away to Sale Sharks on Thursday.

The winner of that match will top the group, with a draw enough for the Dragons to win Pool Two.

"It's up to us next week to make sure we get that home quarter-final, and hopefully this time we'll have a home semi-final" added Tovey.

The Dragons were beaten away to Edinburgh in last year's last four, after the luck of the draw gave the Scots home advantage.

'We usually perform against the better teams'

Tovey took the man-of-the-match award in Dragons' 31-18 victory over Castres on Friday.

But he believes Sale will offer stronger opposition than when the Dragons beat them in the opening match at Rodney Parade.

"I don't think we can take a lot from that because they've changed their team completely now, they've brought their stars back in - but we usually perform against the better teams.

"(Danny Cipriani) is a quality player and he'll have a point to prove after Eddie Jones didn't pick him in the England squad."

Tovey is likely to be first choice at fly-half for Dragons while Dorian Jones is missing for several months, following an operation on a torn pectoral muscle.

Youngster Angus O'Brien is the other number ten in the Dragons squad.
