London Irish have to take risks and play with ambition to claw themselves out of trouble at the bottom of the Premiership, says coach Grant Doorey.

The Exiles defence coach admitted they have to approach the last six games with "a cup final mentality".

Irish host Gloucester on Sunday eight points adrift of safety behind 11th-placed Newcastle Falcons.

"There's no tomorrow for us," Doorey told BBC Radio Berkshire. "If you're ever going to take risks, it's now."

Irish fell to a 26-16 defeat by Saracens in New Jersey last weekend.

A late Nick Tompkins try for Saracens denied them a losing bonus point and the chance to narrow their deficit to fellow strugglers Newcastle.

"We were trying to play with ambition last week," Doorey added. "We made plenty of line breaks, but we were more disappointed with our finishing.

"Being able to be more disciplined when you need to and when you're under pressure, trusting your defence and soaking it up are probably key.

"Gloucester is probably the biggest game of our season and when you put it into context, probably the biggest the club has had for some time."
