James Haskell enjoying Eddie Jones' England more than ever

James Haskell says he is enjoying playing for England under head coach Eddie Jones more than at any other stage in his international career.

England won the Six Nations title last weekend and will claim a first Grand Slam since 2003 if they beat France on Saturday.

Jones, who replaced Stuart Lancaster last year, is the fourth England coach Haskell has played for.

"Under this regime I'm enjoying it more than I've ever done," said Haskell, 30.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 live, he added: "I've always enjoyed playing for England, I've always made that a priority and it's always been something special.

"But it's the happiest time I've ever had in an England camp and you've got to thank Eddie Jones and the coaching staff for that."

After making his international debut under Brian Ashton in 2007, flanker Haskell was also part of the Martin Johnson regime before Jones replaced Lancaster following England's terrible 2015 World Cup campaign on home soil.

Australian Jones has also switched Haskell back to openside flanker but the Wasps captain says Jones' personal approach has proved just as vital.

"As we evolve, the one-brush-sweeping-all policy and treating each player the same doesn't work - we're all individuals, all have different emotional needs and Eddie understands that greatly," he said.

"I feel like for the first time in my career he knows how to talk to players and get the best out of them.

"The modern player and any team needs to understand that while there sometimes is a need to shout at people you also need to talk to players individually, motivate and understand them. I think Eddie has got a good grip on how the players operate.

"Eddie has recaptured the fact that we want to play tough rugby but we want to enjoy ourselves."

Fellow back row forward Billy Vunipola told BBC Sport this week that he and Haskell never used to talk but had bonded under the current England regime.

Yet Haskell denied his former Wasps team-mate's claim, adding: "I'm very disappointed with Billy for making up horrific lies! I have asked him about it and he said he was bored.

"The truth of the matter is I have always talked to Billy but it was very difficult to get a word in edgeways because he was normally off-site in KFC.

"And also he was quite big-time when I turned up to Wasps, so he didn't really give me the time of day. He was a bit of a cult hero there, and then he took the cash and ran away to Saracens. We have always spoken and always got on very well, so hopefully he won't get bored again."
