Leigh Halfpenny scores one of six penalties he put over for Toulon

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny kicked 17 points on his comeback from long-term knee injury as he played the whole of the French Top 14 semi-final.

Halfpenny's five penalties and a conversion helped his club Toulon defeat Montpellier 27-18 in Rennes.

The full-back missed the 2015 World Cup and this year's Six Nations after his injury against Italy last September.

He is now likely to feature in the Top 14 final against Racing 92 in Barcelona on Friday, 24 June.

Halfpenny landed six out of eight attempts at goal against Montpellier, and also provided the final pass for New Zealand centre Ma'a Nonu to score Toulon's second try.

He had been expected to return in April after having an operation on his knee, but suffered a setback which meant he was not considered for Wales' current tour of New Zealand.

Halfpenny, who won the Heineken Cup with Toulon in 2015, has scored 508 points in 62 Tests, and was man of the series on the Lions' tour of Australia in 2013.
