Wales' record cap holder Gethin Jenkins will captain Cardiff Blues in his 17th season of top-flight rugby.

The 131-times capped prop, who turns 36 in November, skippered Blues last season and is set to start as they host Edinburgh in the Pro12 on Saturday.

British and Irish Lion Jenkins is having a testimonial season with the region after making 169 appearances for the Arms Park side.

"Gethin's an outstanding leader," said head coach Danny Wilson.

"He has a very good tactical feel for the game and demands high standards on and off the field.

"He has achieved a phenomenal amount in the game and proved during Wales' summer tour of New Zealand that he still has plenty to offer on the international stage, not to mention for Cardiff Blues.

"We are fortunate to have a number of leaders within our squad and Gethin will be complemented by the likes of Matthew Rees, Sam Warburton, Ellis Jenkins and Lloyd Williams."

Jenkins played for Pontypridd in 2000 and counts Celtic Warriors and Toulon among his former teams.
