Cardiff Blues backs coach Matt Sherratt will work with Wales for the autumn internationals.

Rob Howley, Wales' usual backs coach, has been temporarily promoted to head coach as Warren Gatland steps down from his Wales role to take charge of the British and Irish Lions.

Sherratt, 40, will combine his new role with his Cardiff Blues duties.

"It's a huge privilege to have the opportunity to join the Wales coaching team," he said.

"I'd hugely like to thank the management at the Blues for allowing me this opportunity.

"They have been very supportive of the role and I believe the experience will benefit be as a coach and in turn benefit the Blues."

Sherratt joined the Blues from Bristol ahead of the current season.

He had worked with Blues head coach Danny Wilson at Bristol.
