James Davies injury doubt for Scarlets' trip to Saracens

Scarlets are likely to be without flanker James Davies for Saturday's European Champions Cup match against Saracens.

The Olympic sevens silver-medallist tweaked a hamstring in the 28-11 win over Sale Sharks.

Davies will have a scan on the injury on Monday afternoon, but head coach Wayne Pivac is not optimistic.

"We don't want to take any chances on that, but he's a doubtful starter," Pivac said.

"He's obviously an important part of our game, but it's important he's 100% because if he's not then he could be shown up and we wouldn't want that to count against him."

Scarlets have no other major injury concerns, with Pivac saying Wales centre Scott Williams was carrying a toe-injury against Sharks, but he had suffered no major ill-effects.

Davies, 25, the younger brother of Scarlets and Wales centre Jonathan Davies, was part of the GB team that reached the seven's final at the Rio Olympics this summer.

He has yet to play for Wales, and would have been among a number of strong contenders for a back-row berth in Rob Howley's squad for the autumn internationals to be announced on Tuesday.

Scarlets face the toughest of their European fixtures against Saracens, who made history by inflicting a first home Champions Cup defeat on Toulon in the opening round of matches.

"I'm happy with the way we played against Sharks, but we're going up another level this weekend," added Pivac.
