London Welsh rugby club faces new winding-up order

London Welsh returned to Old Deer Park in 2015, having been promoted to the Premiership in 2012 and 2014

London Welsh rugby club are facing a winding-up petition issued by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

According to the London Gazette, the case is due to be heard at the High Court in London on Monday, 31 October.

It comes less than two months after a previous petition by HMRC was dismissed when the club paid outstanding debts.

At the time, the club said it had agreed a takeover with a United States-based investment group, subject to the approval of the Rugby Football Union.

The new petition was presented on 7 September - only two days after the previous winding-up order had been dismissed after a short hearing.

The Exiles were an English Premiership side as recently as 2015, when they were based at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford and finished bottom of the table after losing all 22 games.

They subsequently returned to their traditional home at Old Deer Park in Richmond after three seasons away.

London Welsh are seventh in the English Championship after losing four of their six matches this season.
