Newcastle dropped to third in their European Rugby Challenge Cup group as they were thrashed by Lyon Olympique at Matmut Stadium.
Lyon wing Paul Bonnefond crossed for a hat-trick, and Jerome Porical converted all six of his side's tries.
Daniel Temm put Newcastle ahead after four minutes but Lyon replied with three tries to lead 21-5 at the break.
Rob Vickers struck after half-time for Falcons, but three tries in the final 12 minutes secured Lyon a bonus point.
Newcastle, who are seventh in the Premiership, host Lyon in the return fixture on 18 December.
