Munster started their Pro14 campaign with a comfortable 34-3 bonus-point victory over Treviso at Irish Independent Park in Cork.

Last season's beaten finalists notched five first-half tries with Jean Kleyn, Tyler Bleyendaal, Darren Sweetnam, Alex Wootton and Andrew Conway all scoring.

Kleyn added Munster's sixth try in the second half as Treviso's only score was a first-half Marty Banks penalty.

A concern for Munster was a knee injury sustained by centre Dan Goggin.

The impending departures of Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber back to South Africa - Erasmus is taking up the director of rugby role with SA Rugby - is likely to overshadow the early part of Munster's season, but the home players showed good application in their season opener.

Debutant Chris Farrell's strong run set up Kleyn's early try and fly-half Bleyendaal quickly added the second touchdown after sustained pressure from the Munster pack.

Kiwi fly-half Banks opened the Italians' account with a straightforward 19th-minute penalty but his opposite number Bleyendaal soon released Sweetnam to score wide on the right.

Munster banked the bonus point on 30 minutes as Conway's catch and charge set up an attack which was finished off by Wootton in the left corner.

Provider Conway turned scorer before half-time as Jaco Taute and Sweetnam combined to set up the chance and the sixth try came after the restart as Kleyn crashed over from close range following the sin-binning of Treviso flanker Francesco Minto.

Kieran Crowley's men had plenty of possession in the second period but were unable to breach the Munster defence.
