Pro14: Benetton Treviso 14-21 Ulster

Ulster beat Benetton to make it two wins from two in the Pro14 but will be disappointed to have failed to score a fourth try for a bonus point.

Skipper Andrew Trimble snapped up two tries inside the opening 24 minutes and Jacob Stockdale touched down to make it 21-0 midway through the second half.

But Benetton hit back with two late tries in a scrappy encounter.

Lock Federico Ruzza forced his way over from a maul and then fly-half Ian McKinley finished off a fine move.

McKinley landed both conversions as the Italian club pocketed a losing bonus point.

It leaves unbeaten Ulster on nine points in Conference B, heaving started the campaign with victory over the Cheetahs in Belfast.

Angelo Esposito went close to a first-half try for Benetton

They had seemed handily placed for the maximum 10 from two matches thanks to Trimble's scores.

The international danced through a sluggish home defence in the ninth minute after Benetton's line-out went wrong.

Scrum-half John Cooney converted and was then instrumental in Trimble's second try which came in the 24th minute.

Cooney supported Trimble's break forward and a neat exchange of passes led to the experienced winger touching down close to the posts.

Ulster, though, lost momentum and nearly conceded in the 27th minute.

Referee Dan Jones had originally awarded a try to Angelo Esposito in the right corner, but Ulster persuaded the match official to refer the matter to a video review.

That revealed Cooney's tackle had taken the winger into touch before the ball was grounded.

In the 61st minute, man-of-the-match Cooney charged down an attempted clearance and winger Stockdale pounced for Ulster's third try.

That should have fired up the visitors to push for the bonus point score, but instead they conceded two tries to leave victory far from assured.

Ruzza powered over in the 65th minute and soon afterwards Tommaso Allan ran on to his own kick to set up Irish-born McKinley for a brilliant try.
