Sebastien Bezy kicked a late penalty to earn Top 14 outfit Toulouse a draw after Sale staged a thrilling comeback in the European Challenge Cup.
The French side went ahead when Semi Kunatani crossed, and they led 14-3 when Bezy converted his own try.
Denny Solomona got the hosts back in it at the break, and then Bryn Evans touched down to give Sale a 17-14 lead.
But Bezy landed two penalties either side of Faf de Klerk's three-pointer as Toulouse took a share of the points.
Sale, for whom James O'Connor started for the first time since he joined from Toulon in the summer, made six changes.
But they could not force a win in their opening pool game against the team second in the Top 14 table who have lost just once this season.
