Bath produced an excellent first-half attacking display to brush aside Harlequins in the Premiership.

The home side secured the bonus point after just 20 minutes as Paul Grant, Freddie Burns, Elliott Stooke and Matt Banahan went over.

Henry Cheeseman pulled a try back for the visitors before the break, before two Burns penalties extended the lead.

Gabriel Ibitoye went over for Quins in a less exciting second period, before Josh Lewis got two Bath penalties.

The win saw the Blue, Black and Whites leapfrog Leicester into third place ahead of the Tigers' Premiership match with Worcester.

Quins' nightmare opening quarter began after just two minutes when Grant went over following Zach Mercer's excellent break, before James Chisholm was sin-binned for a tip tackle.

Burns scored his first try since his summer move to The Rec soon after, with the Londoners then dealt a massive blow as fly-half Marcus Smith went off with a head injury.

Tim Visser had a score for Harlequins chalked off after a knock on, before Stooke and Banahan crossed for the bonus point.

With Chisholm back on the field the visitors cranked up the pressure - Lewis Boyce was held up by Mercer over the try line and then Cheeseman got his first league try for Quins after good work from Jono Kitto.

With the game won by half-time the second period saw less decisive moments, with 19-year-old replacement Ibitoye running three-quarters of the field to score after a Bath break was broken up to score his first-ever Premiership try.

Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder:

"I just thought it was an outstanding performance all round. I couldn't have hoped for a better first half. I was just so proud of the guys.

"I'm just so pleased to see us do our basics well. We didn't try to force it, we kept building pressure and got quick ball. We just created so many opportunities.

"I couldn't have scripted it any better. We were dominant, clinical, ruthless. It was everything you want it to be."

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston:

"With the adjustments to the team, including two head injury assessments, there was a lot of inexperience.

"I was proud of the way they conducted themselves in the second half. They stuck at it and we lost the second half 9-7.

"I said to them at half-time, there was no point lamenting what happened in the first 20 minutes. The way we stuck at it showed a positive sign."
