Wales v South Africa: Jake Ball, Justin Tipuric & Jamie Roberts absent

Jake Ball received lengthy treatment after dislocating his shoulder playing for Wales against New Zealand

Lock Jake Ball and flanker Justin Tipuric have been ruled out of Wales' final autumn Test against South Africa on Saturday through injury.

Ball requires shoulder surgery after the 26-year-old was forced off in the defeat last Saturday by New Zealand.

Lions forward Tipuric, 28, has a thigh injury and has returned to Ospreys.

Wales will also be without centre Jamie Roberts, 31, who has returned to Harlequins, who host Saracens on Sunday in the Aviva Premiership.

Rhodri Jones made his debut for Wales against the Barbarians in 2012.

Lions scrum-half Rhys Webb was replaced against the All Blacks after a head blow and must pass concussion protocols in order to face the Springboks.

However, Wales coach Warren Gatland does have Bath number eight Taulupe Faletau and prop Scott Andrews available to him.

Bath face being fined by Premiership rugby for releasing Lions forward Faletau for a match played outside World Rugby's autumn Tests window.

Tight-head prop Andrews is on loan at Bath from Cardiff Blues and is free to play.

Between injuries and unavailability Wales will be missing nine of the original 36-man autumn squad - including 2017 British and Irish Lions Jonathan Davies, Liam Williams and Justin Tipuric.

Three other Lions 2017 tourists - Sam Warburton, George North and Ross Moriarty - have missed the entire series because of injury.

Scarlets' New Zealand-born centre Hadleigh Parkes could make his Wales debut after qualifying on residency during the period he has been part of Gatland's squad for the autumn Tests.

Parkes' chances of playing have significantly increased because Roberts and Owen Williams are back with their clubs.

Williams, who faced Australia and New Zealand, has returned to Gloucester while Parkes' Scarlets team-mate Jonathan Davies is out injured.
