Canada international back Matt Evans is set to make his first Cornish Pirates appearance for over a year.

The 30-year-old needed two operations to fix a knee injury and made a return to action for National Two South side Redruth on loan last week.

"He played really well at the weekend, for a guy who'd been on a long lay-off he was very physical, full of energy," coach Alan Paver told BBC Cornwall.

"Yes there were a couple of errors, he's a bit rusty, but who wouldn't be."

Evans, who has 38 international caps, has been recalled and will feature for the Pirates in their British and Irish Cup tie at Scarlets Premiership Select on Sunday - and could also play in the return fixture seven days later.

"We'll have a look at him for two weeks, if he's not quite ready, if he's not quite up to speed, hopefully Redruth will take him back and he'll get more game time," added Paver.

"But I don't think it'll be long before we see him in a starting shirt."
