Pro14: Scarlets 47-13 Dragons

Scarlets opened a seven-point lead at the top of Conference B in the Pro14 with a dominant win over Dragons.

The champions claimed a bonus point inside 50 minutes as James Davies, Tom Prydie, Dan Jones and Aled Davies crossed for tries.

Further touchdowns by Aaron Shingler, Will Boyde and Rhys Jones set the seal on a 17th consecutive home league win.

Sarel Pretorius' score was scant consolation for Dragons who have now lost 30 games in a row on the road.

The result capped a perfect holiday campaign for Wayne Pivac's side following wins over Ospreys and Cardiff Blues and means they are unbeaten in five Welsh derbies this season.

And with a number of front line players due to return after injury, it was a useful warm-up to their crucial European Champions Cup Pool Five match in Bath on 12 January.

By contrast Bernard Jackman's Dragons have had a miserable Christmas and New Year, losing all three derby matches and remain second bottom in Conference B.

They put up stubborn resistance at times in Parc y Scarlets, but offered little threat to the hosts.

Dragons were in trouble from the start, their scrum crumbling in the face of Scarlets' all-Wales international front row of Samson Lee, Ken Owens and Rob Evans.

Such was the home team's dominance that Jackman substituted starting props Luke Garrett and Nicky Thomas after 25 minutes, admitting at half time he feared they would be shown a yellow card for repeat infringements.

The move little to stem the flow of possession for the home team, with the driving lineout another effective weapon which led to the opening try for Davies.

Scores in quick succession for Prydie and Dan Jones put Scarlets in complete control, but errors meant they could not claim the bonus point before the interval.

Aled Davies' superb try early in the second half corrected that, and Scarlets pulled away.

The match marked a satisfactory return to action for Lee after a long injury lay-off, as he and a number of other high profile players were taken off in the closing minutes.

Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac: "Thirteen out of 15 points over the last 10 days was really important for us and we're very pleased we've got that.

"We didn't play well in all three games but we keep ourselves in the right end of the conference.

"There were a lot of errors and very little ball in play time. The boys talked about that half time and how we could try and remedy it, I think we got a good run of possession in the first 20 minutes of the second half and got a run of tries in."

Dragons coach Bernard Jackman: "We tried to prepare the best we could but with an average age of 22 it was just one of those games.

"We don't have much depth and haven't had our best 15 once this year. The quality of players we have injured is something I've never seen before.

"The scrum was poor, sometimes when you get the wrong side of the referee you get a yellow card. We were struggling with 15 let alone 14. It was early in the game so I made those changes tactically."
