Jimmy Gopperth's last-gasp conversion enabled Wasps to snatch a draw against Gloucester at Kingsholm.

Tries from Richard Hibbard and Charlie Sharples, along with two penalties from Billy Twelvetrees, gave the hosts a 18-6 lead at half-time.

After Paddy McAllister was sent to the bin, scores from Dan Robson and Thomas Young brought Wasps level.

Gloucester looked set to win when Henry Trinder crossed, but Gopperth's extras from Christian Wade's try levelled it.

The draw will go down as a missed opportunity for the Cherry and Whites, who failed to close the six-point gap to third-placed Wasps.

The hosts dominated territory in the first half and took their opportunities to score when they visited the opposition 22 to deservedly lead at the break.

But Wasps fought back well, dominating the scrum and winning a succession of penalties before crossing twice to make it 18-18.

Twelvetrees had converted Trinder's score to give Gloucester a seven-point advantage with nine minutes remaining, but Wade dived over in the corner with time up and Gopperth held his nerve from wide out kicking into the sun to grab a share of the points.

Wins for Newcastle and Bath meant Gloucester slipped to sixth in the table, two points off the play-off places.

Gloucester coach Johan Ackermann told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"At the moment the mood is not great as we were really striving to get a win and get the buzz back.

"The fact we had them down on their goal-line and had opportunities to close the game shows we are not there yet, but credit to Wasps.

"The guys have put a lot of hard work in and were so close to getting a result. We are not going to give up as there is still a lot to play for.

"But if you look at the game as a while we had 40 percent possession and missed 34 tackles and there is seldom times you will win a game like that."

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"I'm really proud of the players at it is a difficult place to come and they have not lost in the league this year, so we have got to be pleased with a draw.

"The game was nip and tuck, with both teams looking dangerous and squandering a few opportunities as well.

"The last passage of play, having to defend for two or three minutes, and then getting an opportunity to attack and going the length of the field with phase after phase, was fantastic.

"If you have a last kick of the game there is not a better man out there to take it and I had total confidence Jimmy was going to knock it over."
