Newcastle inflicted a fourth straight Premiership defeat on an ill-disciplined Harlequins side, who had three men sent to the sin-bin.

The scores were level at the break as James Horwill's opener for Quins was cancelled out by Callum Chick.

The Falcons took control after the break as Kyle Cooper, Chris Harris and Sinoti Sinoti crossed to seal a bonus point for the visitors.

Victory moved Dean Richards' side up to fourth in the table.

After the hosts took the lead through their returning captain, Harlequins number eight James Chisholm and his opposing number Nili Latu were both shown yellow cards following an altercation at the breakdown.

Newcastle drew level after Joe Gray was sent to the bin for collapsing a maul and Quins managed to soak up pressure and reach the break at 7-7 despite having Alofa Alofa shown yellow after several infringement.

Marcus Smith's penalty edged Harlequins ahead in the second half before Newcastle's quality eventually told as they recorded their first win at The Stoop since September 2000.

Harlequins lost a fourth consecutive Premiership game for the first time since the 2006-07 season and are ninth in the table, 14 points below the top four.

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston:

"They put us under quite a lot of pressure and we seemed to have worked our way through it 10 minutes into the second half leading 10-7.

"When you're losing, confidence levels aren't high and once we went behind, you start trying to go off on a tangent and do things yourselves, and that doesn't work in a team game.

"We have a game of rugby again on Friday night and we will be looking to try and get some pride back in ourselves as a group of people against Bath at home."

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards:

"When we sat down at half-time, we talked about accuracy and understanding, and in the second half I thought we were incredibly clinical.

"I thought Kyle Cooper's try was really good and then Sinoti's, again, was really well taken. I haven't seen that clinical a performance as we put in in that second half in a very long time.

"We hadn't won down here since 2000, so the significance of coming down here and winning is huge, but to get the bonus point as well - even more so."
