Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has named the same starting line-up that began the 32-26 win over France for the Six Nations meeting with England.

But he has made three changes to the bench to face the reigning champions, recalling fit-again prop Willem Nel, lock Tim Swinson and centre Nick Grigg.

Prop Jon Welsh and centre Chris Harris - both of Newcastle - plus Edinburgh lock Ben Toolis drop out of the 23.

Nel, 31, has not played since breaking his arm against Samoa in November.

However the South Africa-born front rower trained with the Scotland squad last week and adds experience to the bench for the Calcutta Cup match.

"It is credit to WP for what he has done with his club [Edinburgh] to get back available. but also what he showed us last week," Townsend told BBC Scotland's Facebook Live., external

"We were doing non-contact sessions and he was tackling everybody. We had a few scrums and he looked really good.

"He is an experienced international player and we needed to know if he was going to be match-fit. We had some pretty rigorous training sessions and he came out of them well."

Swinson, also 31, recently returned to action with Glasgow after suffering a hand injury - also in the first Test of the autumn series against Samoa - which required surgery.

Grigg, whose one cap to date came on last summer's tour against Fiji, has been in good form for Warriors and was man of the match in last week's win over Cheetahs.

Edinburgh full-back Blair Kinghorn, an unused replacement against France, could make his Test debut from the bench against Eddie Jones' side.

"Blair has been excellent this season and has showed us he is ready for this step up," Townsend said.

"He is confident, he is very quick, and he is covering all three back-three positions.

"It wasn't the time for him to come on last week, but who knows, it could be a great moment for him to come off the bench and play in what is a huge fixture for us and the nation."

Scotland have not beaten England in 10 meetings since their last Calcutta Cup victory in 2008, while England arrive in Edinburgh having won 25 of their past 26 Tests.

"England are the number two side in the world and have shown a very good level of consistency in the past couple of seasons," Townsend noted. "This is due to the quality of their playing and coaching staff, who have done a tremendous job.

"They have a very good defence, an excellent set-piece and like to get 10 and 12 on the ball as much as possible in attack. Taking on England is going to be a huge challenge and we are well aware that only our very best will be good enough in this fixture."
