Scarlets back-row Aaron Shingler says he expects to be sidelined until Christmas after undergoing surgery.

The 30-year-old is set to miss Wales' autumn Test series, having already had to withdraw from their summer tour.

Shingler, who has won 17 caps, suffered a knee injury in Scarlets' Pro14 final loss against Leinster in Dublin.

"Injury update from me, torn my ACL, had the op yesterday [Thursday]. Hopefully be back around Christmas time," Shingler confirmed on Twitter.

Scarlets scrum-half Jonathan Evans will miss the start of the 2018-19 season after damaging a foot in the same match.

A Scarlets statement confirmed that both players would "follow an extensive rehabilitation period".
