Premiership: Saracens beat Bath for fifth straight bonus-point Premiership victory

Wales and Lions wing Liam Williams ran in three of Saracens' eight tries

Premiership leaders Saracens continued their perfect start to the season as they scored eight tries to beat Bath, with Liam Williams bagging a hat-trick.

Williams, Alex Goode, Jamie George and Nick Tompkins all scored for Sarries before the break, with Chris Cook and Tom Homer replying for the visitors.

Wales wing Williams crossed twice after the restart and then Homer got his second with an interception try.

Sean Maitland and Christopher Tolofua added late tries as Sarries dominated.

The north London side, who became the first club in Premiership history to begin a campaign with five bonus-point victories, were comfortable throughout despite a spirited display from the visitors, who made 13 changes from the side which beat Northampton.

Williams rounded off a sweeping cross-field move for his first try, before latching on to an off-load from Titi Lamositele for his second and being fed by Goode for his third after great work by the full-back, who was instrumental throughout

Owen Farrell kicked five conversions for Saracens and became the club's leading points scorer in Premiership history in the process, surpassing Glen Jackson's previous record of 1,192 points.

Bath notched interception tries from Cook and Homer but rarely looked like getting a fourth score, suffering their second defeat of the season as Saracens controlled the second period.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall on Alex Goode's performance:

"It says a lot about his hunger to play at the highest level. He still wants to play for England, and he works incredibly hard for it.

"He works harder than people think. A lot of people think it's natural ability but he's worked hard to be quicker, to get his body in better shape and you could see that against Bath.

"It wasn't just his footwork, he looked quick and that's as good a performance as he's put in for us. But he has put in hundreds of those in fairness. It was an incredible performance."

Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder:

"We came here to get a point. We've got Exeter on Friday and we've got a massive month coming up.

"I stand by the decision [to make 13 changes]. We're doing the best thing for our team and our players.

"We didn't get what we were after - all we were really after was chasing a bonus point to come away with something, I still think we will take a lot out of this.

"I'd rather bring these young guys to play against the best so that they know what the benchmark is. That way we can freshen our squad up for next week.

"Otherwise we'll just end up playing our best team every week and we'll end up breaking guys. I just don't think that's the way forward."
