Gloucester scrum-half Ben Vellacott is to join Wasps at the end of the season.

The former Scotland Under-20 international, who has played 45 times for the Cherry and Whites, trained with the full England squad in 2018.

"The chance to play for such a historic club as Wasps is something that was too good to turn down," said Vellacott.

Wasps have not disclosed the length of his deal at the Ricoh Arena, where he will replace Joe Simpson, who is moving in the opposite direction.

"Ben is a young player with a huge amount of potential. He is a hungry young athlete who will be keen to compete for a starting place," said director of rugby Dai Young.

"The pace at which he plays the game is something that will no doubt benefit our backline."

On top of Christian Wade's move to American football, a number of high-profile players will leave Wasps in the summer.

England star Elliot Daly will join Saracens, Bristol have signed his England international team-mate Nathan Hughes, and South African Willie Le Roux is to go too.

Two Wasps props are leaving too, as Sale have signed Jake Cooper-Woolley and Bath have signed Will Stuart.
