Leicester are currently sixth in the Premiership table and Bristol are top

Leicester Tigers have resumed plans to welcome fans to next month's game with Bristol after a public health boss said new government coronavirus advice for the city was incorrect.

Leicester was one of eight places listed in new Indian variant guidance.

But Professor Ivan Browne, Leicester's director of public health, said government officials have now confirmed there are no restrictions on travel.

Leicester are anticipating a crowd of about 6,000 for the 5 June fixture.

Further information has now been posted on the city council website which says the government has confirmed any suggestion of additional restrictions was incorrect and that people should continue to follow existing national guidelines.

Browne said the council had an "urgent meeting" with government representatives and local authorities on Tuesday after becoming aware of the updated guidance.

"These officials confirmed there are no restrictions on travel in or out of each of our areas and it was a mistake to suggest there was," he said.

Tigers said all tickets, hospitality and events bookings are guaranteed to be refunded if government restrictions prevent supporters from attending matches.
