Scarlets have recruited defence coach Hugh Hogan in a backroom revamp with attack coach Richard Whiffin leaving the region.

Hogan arrives from Irish province Leinster with Whiffin having left by mutual consent.

Scarlets boss Dwayne Peel said: "He has been doing fantastic work at Leinster, playing a big role in their success."

Hogan has worked with Leinster A and their age-grade teams as well as Ireland Sevens.

He said of Scarlets: "They are a team with a rich history and I think they are synonymous with a skilful and energising brand of rugby.

"To join the group and be a part of this is something that I'm really looking forward to. We are ambitious for the future and what this talented group of players are capable of."

Whiffin had arrived from Gloucester academy in 2019 and spent two seasons as part of the coaching team.

He worked with two head coaches in Glenn Delaney and Brad Mooar with Peel coming in to take over that role this summer.

"It has been a pleasure to coach such a great group of players these past two years," said Whiffin.
