Scarlets centre Johnny Williams has won five caps for Wales

Scarlets centre Johnny Williams will miss the start of Wales' autumn campaign after suffering another calf injury against Benetton.

The 25-year-old sustained the problem in Saturday's 34-23 United Rugby Championship defeat in Italy.

Wales play New Zealand on 5 November before matches against Argentina, Georgia and Australia.

Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel confirmed Williams will miss at least the opening of the autumn programme.

Cardiff duo Liam Williams (shoulder) and Owen Lane (ankle) as well as Dragons prop Leon Brown (neck) have already been ruled out of the four-match series.

There are also concerns surrounding Cardiff flanker Josh Navidi (neck) and Ospreys trio Alex Cuthbert (leg), Gareth Anscombe (ribs) and Justin Tipuric (ribs).

Williams missed a couple of months of action last season with a similar injury.

He had been one of the in-form centres in Welsh rugby this season and would have been challenging for a place against the All Blacks.
