Ospreys have agreed new contracts with five players for next season.

Former Wales Under-20s fly-half Luke Scully has signed to remain at the Swansea.com stadium.

He follows props Rhys Henry and Ben Warren as well as back rows Tristan Davies and Will Griffiths in agreeing new deals with the region.

However, fly-half Cai Evans - in Switzerland as part of Warren Gatland's provisional World Cup squad - is leaving to join Welsh rivals Dragons.

The five players who have agreed contracts are likely to play a key role for coach Toby Booth at Ospreys next season following the loss of several high-profile players.

Ospreys, like the other three Welsh regions, are facing major financial cutbacks.

Salary caps will be implemented from the start of the 2023-24 season which will be £5.2m for each of the four teams, reducing to £4.5m in the following season.

The cuts have seen the likes of Rhys Webb, Tomas Francis, Dan Lydiate and Gareth Anscombe leave Ospreys in recent months.

Booth said handing new contracts to theses players was an "easy decision".

"They have proven themselves to be assets to the Ospreys both on and off the field, and we are excited to see how they continue to grow and contribute to the team moving forward," he said.

"By investing in our young talent, it allows us to maintain a strong core group of players who understand our system and values. We are confident that these boys will provide both further quality and continuity to our squad."

Scully, 23, will help provide cover at number 10 following the loss of Wales fly-half Anscombe and another experienced player, Stephen Myler, who is retiring.

Back row Griffiths, 24, was ruled out for most of last season after suffering a knee injury in October.

Griffiths, who made his regional debut as a teenager, had previously captained Ospreys and has made 49 appearances for the region.

Davies, 21, is another who has played for Wales Under-20s and can cover both second and back rows.

Warren joined Ospreys two years ago from Cardiff having represented Wales at each age grade from under-16s to under-20s.
