Bristol Bears fly-half AJ MacGinty faces a spell out after tearing his hamstring during the their 25-14 Premiership win over Leicester.

The American number 10 went off 31 minutes into the Bears' opening game of the Premiership season.

Prop Jay Tyack also injured his shoulder during the first half and is facing time on the sidelines.

Bristol travel to Northampton on Saturday in their second league match, before hosting Harlequins.

"He [MacGinty] tore his hammy so the exact time back I'm not sure but it certainly won't be this week," director of rugby Pat Lam told BBC Radio Bristol.

"Unfortunately Jay Tyack, I think it was an AC [acromioclavicular joint].

"At this stage [it is serious]. He could be a few months away."

Callum Sheedy is expected to be recalled into the matchday squad for Saturday's trip to Franklin's Gardens after being left out for the Tigers game.

"If I just had Callum Sheedy I'd be very happy, if I just had AJ MacGinty I'm very happy... but I'm ecstatic that I've got both players and the big one for us is always good competition. It's about which one starts, then we pick the bench after that.

"AJ was the right person for the Leicester game and then the bench with Jimmy [James Williams] being able to cover 10 as well gave us more options."
