Fiji centre Semi Radradra will make his Lyon debut on his return to Ashton Gate Stadium in the Investec Champions Cup.
Radradra, 31, played for Bristol from 2020-2023, helping them win the Challenge Cup in 2020.
He also played a key role in Fiji's run to the quarter-finals of this year's Rugby World Cup.
Bristol will be without England prop Ellis Genge for the game because of a hamstring injury the 28-year-old picked up in training.
However, number eight Magnus Bradbury returns from injury to start the game alongside Steven Luatua and Fitz Harding in the back row.
Pat Lam names an unchanged backline from their recent 51-26 victory over Gloucester, which was only Bristol's third win of the season.
On the bench Sam Wolstenholme replaces injured scrum-half Kieran Marmion.
Bristol, who are eighth in the Premiership, also face Bordeaux Begles, Connacht and South African side Bulls in Pool One.
