Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel says he hopes former defence coach Gareth Williams will stay within the organisation.

Williams was removed from his role in Peel's coaching team earlier in February.

Williams has been offered a role within the Scarlets' academy and development pathways which Peel hopes he will take.

"We are still hopeful Babs (Gareth Williams) will remain with the organisation," said Peel.

Scarlets have won only two games in 14 matches so far this season.

"Gar is a fantastic guy and the hope for us is that he stays in the environment," said Peel.

"We are sad to see that but the players have reacted as you'd expect. Everybody has pulled together on that.

"Obviously everybody is sad to see that change happen but he is considering (a different role) and hopefully he stays."

Peel says he does not envisage any further changes in the coaching staff.

"I'll be taking more of a lead in attack alongside Jarrod (Payne), and Jarrod is also taking a lead on the defensive game," said Peel.
