Tomos Williams will still be eligible to play for Wales despite moving to Gloucester

Cardiff scrum-half Tomos Williams is unlikely to feature for the Welsh region again after rupturing ligaments in his ankle on international duty.

The 29-year-old limped off in the second half of Wales' lost to Italy, and Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt expects him to be out for 10-12 weeks.

Williams, who made his Cardiff debut in 2013, is leaving the region at the end of the season to join Gloucester.

"We wish him a speedy and uncomplicated recovery," said Sherratt.

"He has ruptured a couple ligaments in his ankle so he will be out 10-12 weeks minimum.

"It's disappointing because he has had a brilliant season, he took his club form into the Six Nations, and he's been a big part of the club for the last 10 years here."

Cardiff's final United Rugby Championship game of the season is against Ospreys on 1 June, with the region's last game of the season at Arms Park on 27 April.

"If we get to see him again it will be brilliant, unfortunately it will be right on the edge of our last game of the season against Ospreys on 1 June," Sherratt added.

"Fingers crossed [he is back for] Judgement Day, but it's going to be right on the verge."
