Camborne won their Cornish derby as they beat rivals Redruth 43-35 at the Recreation Ground.

Camborne led 43-7 at the break as they scored six tries without reply as Jordan Rose, AJ King, a double from James Ducker, Connor Gilbert and Josh Matavesi went over before Chris Rovery pulled one back just before the break.

Sam James and Bobby Wittington crossed for Redruth after the break to cut the gap before the Reds scored a penalty try.

Tommy Phillips scored late on to ensure a try-scoring bonus point for the hosts in the National Two West fixture.

"The first half was unbelievably good, we just carved them apart at every opportunity," Camborne director of rugby Steve Larkins told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I thought our discipline was good and really we put it to bed in that first 35 minutes - to score 43 points in a half of rugby at a difficult place to come against a Redruth side who are a quality team, we were undoubtedly happy.

"It was unfortunate that it fell apart in that second half because we couldn't get our hands on the ball much."

Redruth head coach Richie Kevern added: "It was a spectacle and was definitely a game of two halves.

"We were very poor for the first 30 minutes and we fed a Camborne side a lot of momentum and a lot of opportunities that they didn't need to be asked twice to take.

"It's just disappointing that when we did pull ourselves together we were dangerous and a difficult side to stop, which shows what we can do."
