Newcastle Falcons have signed veteran Canon Eagles back-rower Amanaki Mafi on a one-year deal.
The 35-year-old Japan international previously had a short stint in the Premiership with Bath in 2016.
"Amanaki is a big ball carrier with great footwork and an offloading game, and someone who will get our fans off their seats," director of rugby Steve Diamond told the club website., external
"He makes impacts in both attack and defence, he will bring others into the game and I see this as a really significant signing for us."
Mafi is the club's fourth new signing since the end of July following the arrivals of hooker George McGuigan, Scotland lock Jamie Hodgson and versatile forward Freddie Clarke.
Newcastle play their first game of the new season in the Premiership Rugby Cup against Harlequins on 12 September before their opening Prem match at home to Saracens two weeks later.
