Judgement Day will return to the Principality Stadium in 2025 with the United Rugby Championship Welsh shield again up for grabs next season

Welsh Rugby's Judgement Day will move back to Principality Stadium in April 2025.

This year's event is at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, 1 June.

Cardiff's Principality Stadium has normally hosted the Welsh double-header, but the lateness of this season's fixture meant it clashed with the concert season at the venue with Bruce Springsteen, Pink, Taylor Swift and Foo Fighters all playing at the venue in May and June.

The Judgement Day event has traditionally been held around Easter, but this season was moved to later due to the 2023 World Cup delaying the United Rugby Championship (URC) campaign.

The games will return to their traditional slot of Easter Saturday on 19 April, 2025 with Ospreys playing Cardiff first with Scarlets and Dragons following.

Cardiff City Stadium has a capacity of 33,280, compared to 74,500 at the Principality Stadium.

Last season's Judgement Day event, in April 2023, attracted a crowd of 41,139 for the two matches, with Cardiff beating Ospreys and Dragons overcoming Scarlets.

URC fixtures revealed

The announcement came as the URC 2024-25 season fixtures, external have been revealed 114 days before the new season will start and while the current campaign continues.

The season will begin on Friday, 20 September with Cardiff hosting Zebre and Scarlets travelling to play Benetton the following day.

There will also be a Welsh derby at Rodney Parade between Dragons and Ospreys on 21 September, with Dai Flanagan's side having four of their first five games at home.

Scarlets and Cardiff will again face each other twice in the opening four games.

The traditional Christmas and New Year's Welsh derbies will continue over the festive period on 26 December and 1 January.

The final round of league matches will take place on Saturday, 17 May with the four Welsh sides in South Africa for the final two rounds of the regular programme. This means the final home games will be played in Wales at the end of April.

The quarter-final and semi-final play-offs will be in late May and early June before the final on 14 June.

The Ospreys' home destination of matches have not yet been officially confirmed on the list with the region waiting to see the fixtures of Swansea City football club which are released on 26 June.

Ospreys are still planning to host the majority of their games at Swansea.com Stadium next season before leaving for a new ground for the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

No URC league matches will take place on an international weekend during the 2024 autumn programme or the 2025 Six Nations.

“Given the complexity of our scheduling we are thrilled to have our fixtures published earlier than ever before," said URC chief executive Martin Anayi.

"Our fixture list is at the core of our entire league with fans, teams, broadcasters and media all setting their schedules to it and now we have set a new standard by delivering it while the current season is still in play.

“Our whole team is focused on making the United Rugby Championship the best league in the world and setting fan-friendly goals is key to that."
