Pirates sign Australian back Mawson after trial

Angus Mawson could make his debut at the Mennaye Field on Saturday

Cornish Pirates have signed Australian back Angus Mawson after a successful trial.

The 22-year-old, who can play at fly-half or full-back, joins the club having played in Australia's Shute Shield with the Warringah Rats.

Joint-head coach Gavin Cattle told the club website, external: "He's a bright young prospect. He came here off his own back in the summer and is English Qualified and we've been impressed with his skillset and attitude."

Mawson could make his debut on Saturday when the Pirates host unbeaten Caldy at the Mennaye.
