Gavin Cattle says he was pleased with the way his side returned to Championship action as they beat London Scottish 41-31.

The game was Pirates’ first competitive fixture in four weeks and saw them score six tries to consolidate sixth place in the table.

"We were a bit ring rusty against the Navy last week and a lot of changes, a bigger bench, but I'm happy that we looked pretty fit out there," joint-head coach Cattle told BBC Radio Cornwall, referencing the 54-14 win over the Navy which formed part of their 20th anniversary celebrations.

"You always doubt that when you have a little spell but you haven't had any match fitness for like four weeks, so that was good to see and we looked quite strong."

Two tries from Will Trewin and one from Tomi Agbongbon saw Pirates lead 24-17 at the break.

Sol Moody went over twice in the opening eight minutes of the second half to extend the lead before Dan Hiscocks' try with just under 20 minutes left.

"We‘re heavily reliant on our maul normally, but I think that didn't quite go to plan today, a couple of penalties and a couple of opportunities in that first half we missed out on," Cattle added.

"But I thought overall, that's the best backline performance we've put in this season.

"I thought as a team the physicality was very good. They scored that try at the end, which I think was a bit flattering because we dominated the second half, but they're a dangerous team off turnover which we found out in the first half."
