Ireland to choke again, England to play their final in the semi final yet again, but a New Zealand v South Africa final is inevitable.

I honestly believe England will get to the final and have a good chance at winning. There’s something building...

Hard to look past South Africa at the moment, but England look to be building something & France will be as dangerous as ever.

Australia also co-hosted the inaugural tournament with New Zealand in 1987 and were crowned world champions twice in Europe, in 1991 and 1999.

Choosing the seedings based on world rankings almost two years before the tournament starts is bonkers. The excuse that it gives fans time to plan is clearly disingenuous. 2 years to book a flight and a hotel? I can do it in 10 minutes from my kitchen table!

Australia find themselves in band two of the World Cup seedings after dropping down to seventh in the current world rankings.
The tournament hosts failed to make it into the group of top six seeds after winning just five of 15 Tests in 2025, including a 2-1 series defeat to the British & Irish Lions.
They lost four of their six games in the 2025 Rugby Championship - which includes home and away matches against South Africa, New Zealand and Argentina.
And the Wallabies were on the losing side in all four matches of the recent Autumn Internationals - in England, Ireland and France, as well as a 26-19 loss to Italy in Udine.
Image source, Getty ImagesIf the spreadsheet, permuatations and third-place qualifier calculations aren't getting you in the mood, then why not have a gander at World Rugby's hype video for the tournament?
It is kind of Mad Max meets the Quidditch World Cup, with more Jonny Wilkinson, George Gregan and frill-necked lizard.
Enjoy!

South Africa will win the 2027 rugby world cup in a close final against either New Zealand or England.

South Africa will dominate the tournament.

It is not uncommon for World Rugby to host the draw years before the tournament. The pools for the 2023 World Cup were decided in December 2020, for example.
That draw caused controversy as the world's five best ranked teams in 2023 - Ireland, France, New Zealand, South Africa and Scotland - ended up on the same side of the draw because of their rankings at the time of the draw three years earlier.
The 2027 draw is being conducted closer to the tournament this time. This is to:

And, of course, we want you getting involved in this short time we're live this morning.
A simple question, but one that needs asking.
Who will win the 2027 Rugby World Cup?
Will England relive their 2003 glory on Australian soil? Will the hosts deliver a third title for their nation? Can South Africa make it a historic three-peat?
You know what to do.

The top two teams from each pool will progress to the round of 16 along with the four best third-place nations.
This is where it gets a bit more complicated...
Some have said the format is imbalanced, but organisers say this is "addressed in the next round" and will even itself out.
So for example, the winner of Pool A will play a third-place team in the round of 16, but could face the winner of Pool B if that team advances. The winner of Pool E will play a second-place team in both knockout rounds.

Each pool will have one team from each of the four bands.
The World Cup format added extra incentive for teams in the autumn internationals as teams looked to gain a late rise up the rankings and improve their seeding.
Australia are guaranteed to be in Pool A as hosts, but will face a top seeded team as they are not in the top six of the world rankings.
