Long arching pass to try-scorer Matsumura just strays forward in the breeze but Japan have rediscovered their confidence.

There are 15 minutes left... and Wales may already be getting twitchy!

Wales have made 13 handling errors compared to Japan's 7.

    That's a painful stat.

No they can't because Japan go up the other end and the wing pulls off a great finish in the left corner.

    Wales 19-0 Japan

Georgia Evans sticks her head into a breakdown and those pink hair-ties emerge with the ball.

    Nice work... can Wales capitalise?

  5. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Wales 19-0 Japan

Mind you, not as frustrating as Japan's performance!

They've got the wind behind them and have just seen a second kick roll harmlessly beyond the Wales dead-ball line in the space of five minutes.

    Wales 19-0 Japan

Carys Cox takes her eye off the ball there and another Wales attack stumbles to nothing.

They may be winning but it's still frustrating.

    This is an interesting one.

I asked earlier if Wales fans were happy with what they had seen in the first half... and it's not as clear cut as you might have thought.

    Wales 19-0 Japan

This has been such a disappointing display from Japan who look a shadow of the team that lost narrowly to both South Africa and Scotland in their previous games here.

They will have fancied their chances today but they just haven't got going.

Maisie Davies is a bright young talent and is already being talked about as a future Wales captain.

She was outstanding with the under-20s in the Parma in their summer series.

    Certainly one to watch.

Gwenllian Pyrs landed on the ball after being tackled and that was just a right old-fashioned winding.

She trudges off try to get her breath and Maisie Davies is on.

Georgia Evans is also on and it's hard not to notice her with a shocking pink hairties!

She will be fired up to make an impact after being dropped to the bench for this one!

Japan lock Otoka Yoshimura has got through so much work. She has carried relentlessly but comes up with a crucial tackle on Alex Callender to force the turnover and save Japan.

Well if all that tackling in the first half hadn't sapped the energy from Japan's legs... conceding that try will.

They had looked so good as they worked their way up field with a series of heavy carries, until Seino Saito's pass was picked off.

    Tough one to take.

    New lungs for Jaz please!

There aren't many players in women's rugby that would catch the St Davids speedster over 100 metres.

    What a read!

    Oh that's heartbreaking for Japan.

They must have gone through 10 phases but Jaz Joyce picks off a pass just three metres from her own try line and the Olympian has a clear field in front of her.

No-one was going to catch her and Bevan adds the conversion.

Japan were forced to make almost 100 tackles in that first half - more than double the tally of Wales.

That is bound to take its toll on Japanese energy levels as the game goes on.

But one damning statistic is that Wales have made 11 handling errors.

So once again, Welsh mistakes are seeing points slip from their grasp - literally.

Japan were the first opponents Ioan Cunningham faced as Wales head coach in 2021.

At this rate, this game won't be his last as Wales boss.

There have only been two previous meetings between these sides:

    • 2021 - Wales 23-5 Japan
    • 2017 - Wales 10-52 Japan
