    FT: Stormers 34-24 Cardiff

It was a valiant effort from Cardiff, but it was always going to be an uphill task after Danny Southworth's red card in the 30th minute.

They scored four tries and were cruelly stripped of a losing bonus-point with the last kick of the game.

They will await the other scores of the weekend, but it looks very likely they will fall just short of making the play-offs for the first time.

Scarlets could very well carry the only Welsh hopes of a top eight finish when they take on Sharks tomorrow night.

But there's a lot of rugby to be played before then.

Thank you for joining us. Good night!

Cardiff captain Josh McNally said: "That's exactly what we asked for earlier in the week, 'let's not leave anything out there'.

"It would've been nice to get the win and see where that leaves us, but I'm proud of the group, all year we've fought for everything, this group is going somewhere.

"We fought really hard, I can't ask any more of the boys and I'm extremely proud of our performance."

Cardiff's defence has been great all year, but they've made the most tackles in the league.

You can't keep playing like that, you end up with tired bodies.

  4. Man of the Match - Suleiman Hartzenbergpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 16 May

    FT: Stormers 34-24 Cardiff

The honour goes to the Stormers wing who scored two tries on his 50th appearance for the Cape Town franchise.

The 21-year-old former Llandovery College player said: "Today I was playing for more than just myself, I was playing for that little boy in the streets hoping to be like the people they see on TV.

"We're hoping to carry on the momentum we have and take that to the quarter-finals."

A very tough result to take.

Stormers were just to good in that first-half and they tired Cardiff out.

Cardiff are currently in seventh place, but it's a tense waiting game.

It doesn't look like that losing bonus-point will be enough for Matt Sherratt's side with the other teams yet to play.

Edinburgh are currently leading Ulster 12-0 in the 19:35 kick-off.

It's a cruel final blow, a late penalty takes away Cardiff's losing bonus-point.

They leave Cape Town with just one now.

Cardiff have their two losing bonus-points.

They've got to go for it in the final minute.

Cardiff just don't give up, the resilience of this side.

It's not pretty but it's definitely effective.

    Dafydd Hughes, con Callum Sheedy.

It's a huge moment for Dafydd Hughes, he got the turnover and now he's over for the try.

Callum Sheedy gets the all important conversion.

Dafydd Hughes wins a huge turnover and it's one last chance for Cardiff to save their season.

What can they do from a five metre lineout?

I think the best outcome for Cardiff now would be a converted try to get those three points.

Two converted tries in seven minutes is a massive ask, I think the season is over for Cardiff now.

That could be it for Cardiff.

Cameron Winnett can't gather high ball under pressure and Connor Evans is over for Stormers' fifth.

A converted try would draw the game for Cardiff which would give them three points and take them above Scarlets in the table.

They have to get possession back first.

It's good how competitive the URC play-off race is, it's gone right down the wire this year.

Cardiff have to win it, that's my gut feeling.

    I can't see Edinburgh losing.
