There's some good old kick tennis between the sides, which comes to an end when Seung-sin Lee sends it into touch.

It WAS much, much better from Ireland. But then there's a clumsy knock on and Japan win the scrum in their own 22.

Ireland work it through the hands really well and Tommy O'Brien is brought down just short.

    Much, much better from Ireland.

Japan win the throw and are throwing it about for fun again.

But there's one pass too many and Ireland snatch it.

Japan are so effective with ball in hand that they will not want to get into a kick battle with a much taller Ireland team.

The players are back out on the pitch and we've heard Jacob Stockdale's yellow will remain just that.

Kippei Ishida's change of direction saved the Ulster wing from any further punishment.

Kudos to the Japanese. They have played all the rugby so far. Ireland, on pure rugby terms, have lost the first half. The Japanese may lose the second half through tiredness but my verdict is that they have won already. Young Eddie may not be such a bad trainer after all... Meanwhile, I am beginning to gain the impression that Farrell has run out of steam.

Sam Prendergast is out on the pitch, practising his kicking.

Wonder when we'll see him in the second half...

Nick Timoney is like my labrador when he has something in his mouth that he really shouldn't have.

    There's no catching him.

In Ireland's defence, the one time they put a fluid attack together they scored with Jack Crowley's early try.

But even that was against 14 men.

And Nick Timoney's score came from a dropped ball.

Safe to say there is work to do.

Ireland have made nearly double the amount of tackles as Japan. That was not the way this was supposed to go but it shows how much Ireland have been forced to defend.

Eddie Jones said he wanted Japan to entertain today. They've ticked a box in that respect.

They've been miles better to watch than Ireland, and they'll have a man advantage for 10 minutes after the restart.

There is nearly a foot in height difference between Ishida and Stockdale and the sudden change of direction from Ishida combined with his height makes it so difficult for him.

It's one of those you'd like to put down as a rugby incident, there's no way for Jacob to react and it's not clear and obvious there is any contact.

    Jacob is very frustrated.
