Scotland manager Craig Levein aims for victory in Spain

Scotland manager Craig Levein will instruct his team to aim for victory against Spain in their final Euro 2012 qualifier.

His side occupy the play-off spot in Group I ahead of the final round of fixtures, a point ahead of closest rivals Czech Republic.

But Levein believes his side may have to beat the world champions to remain there.

"It is a tall order, but it is a one-off match," he told BBC Radio Scotland.

"You saw the first time around at Hampden that we are capable of scoring goals and the boys have won six of their last nine matches, so we're going into this game in good spirits.

"We've put ourselves in a position where we are second place heading into the last game. Things worked out well for us and it is now about recovering for the game on Tuesday.

"We've got to go and try to win."

Craig Mackail-Smith's first international goal gave Scotland a 1-0 victory in their penultimate qualifier against Liechtenstein, to move a point ahead of the Czechs, who were defeated by Spain on Friday evening.

But despite the Brighton striker's 32nd-minute header proving crucial, Levein admitted that Kenny Miller will return to the starting line-up, if he recovers from a groin injury.

"Craig was excellent and you have to bear in mind that we don't know him that well," Levein told Sportsound.

"The supporters saw tonight that he's somebody who wears his heart on his sleeve and tries his hardest in every single game. For him to score the winning goal on his competitive debut is great for him.

"I would imagine he will drop out if Kenny is fit for Spain, but I haven't really thought about Tuesday night's team because I wanted to concentrate all our efforts on this evening. We've done the first part of the job."

But despite the victory, Mackail-Smith told BBC Scotland that Scotland still have a massive task ahead of them.

"It's going to be harder on Tuesday against world-class opposition but we'll do the best we can," he said.

"It was a great performance from the boys. We created loads of chances so hopefully we can do the same on Tuesday and put some in the back of the net."
