13 February - Rangers owner Craig Whyte announces to fans gathered at the main entrance to Ibrox Stadium that the club is likely to go into administration - it did the following day

18 March - Kilmarnock celebrate beating Celtic to lift the 2012 Scottish Communities League Cup at Hampden Park

7 April - Celtic manager Neil Lennon and assistant Johan Mjallby celebrate as their team clinch the Scottish Premier League title at Rugby Park with a 6-0 win over Kilmarnock

19 May - Ryan McGowan scores Hearts' fourth goal on their way to a 5-1 win against city rivals Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final

11 August - With the company that ran Rangers heading for liquidation, a consortium led by Charles Green buys the club's assets and starts to rebuild. Ally McCoist's side begin the new season in Scottish Football League Division Three, the fourth tier of Scottish football, after the Scottish Premier League's member club voted against their inclusion in the top flight. Their Division Three opener at Balmoor ended Peterhead 2-2 Rangers

8 September - Manager Craig Levein keeps his cool ahead of the opening game of Scotland's World Cup qualifying campaign. Scotland drew 0-0 with Serbia at Hampden and followed that with a 1-1 home draw against Macedonia. Worse was to follow in Group A in October...

18 September - There's a shock in the quarter-finals of the Ramsdens Cup as Queen of the South beat tournament favourites Rangers on penalties at Ibrox. Queens will meet Partick Thistle in April's final

19 September - Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher makes his club return after an 11-month absence

16 October - Dejected Scotland fans at the end of the World Cup qualifer in Belgium share their thoughts on who should lead the team

28 October - Glasgow City lift the Scottish Women's Premier League trophy for the sixth year in a row. They went on to clinch the domestic treble for the second time in three years. They narrowly failed to reach the last 16 of the Champions League, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Fortuna Hjorring

7 November - Lionel Messi and his Barcelona team-mates are humbled in Glasgow as Celtic clinch a 2-1 victory against the Champions League favourites

14 November - With Craig Levein having been deposed as Scotland coach in early November, Under-21 coach Billy Stark is appointed as interim coach of the senior team and overseas a 2-1 friendly win in Luxembourg. Stark congratulates double goal-scorer Jordan Rhodes as the striker is substituted in the second half

29 December - Michael Tidser celebrates with Fouad Bachirou as Morton beat Dunfermline to replace Partick Thistle as Scottish First Division leaders in what is shaping up to become an exciting title race

30 December - Dundee United and St Mirren serve up a seven-goal thriller in Scotland's final senior match of the year, the latest in a series of high-scoring SPL matches. The Paisley side triumph 4-3 at Tannadice
